Dessert evening to be held on Friday, March 2, at 7:00 PM at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Abbotsford. Our speaker is the internationally esteemed Dr. Stuart Murray, author of The Naked Anabaptist; the Bare Essentials of a Radical Faith. While the contents of this widely-acclaimed book are very interesting and thought-provoking, for me the most fascinating aspect is that Dr. Murray speaks as leader of the Anabaptist Network, a British/Irish association of individuals and groups who, through their own biblical and historical research, discovered the early Anabaptists and the Mennonites of today and have embraced Anabaptist values and theology. Their story is not only very interesting, it is unique! Theirs is not a story of increasing the Anabaptist/Mennonite numbers by church planting; theirs is a story of growth by serious biblical and historical investigation. Following the lecture by Dr. Murray, we will have brief responses or critiques by Dr. Gareth Brandt, professor at Columbia Bible College, and Dr. Brian cooper, Mennonite Brethren professor at ACTS, Trinity Western University. After the responses we will have a Q and A time. There is no charge for this unusual event but there will be an offering. This is the only public presentation in Canada by Dr. Murray during his current North American tour.
